![]() ![]() Oh, and we ate at the poolside restaurant and the place next door that allowed kids and that was surprisingly tasty, with a smallish but very focused menu. The Mediterranean place was my least favorite, but that was more of a personal preference than any actual complaints about the food. The Sushi/Asian place was good, but the stir-fry dishes were definitely superior to the sushi. The French restauarnt and the Seafood restaurant were the top tier. ![]() We did have to wait to be seated for dinner about half the time, but never longer than seemed appropriate (the longest wait was when it was storming pretty hard, which clearly affected service, but the waiting area was super comfortable and they had a fun free blackjack thing and also FREE BAR RIGHT THERE). We had lunch at the buffet only once, but it was great then, too. They had full bar service here, as well, in addition to a make your own Bloody Mary and Mimosa station. Nice variety, fresh stuff, and we never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a table (and that only happened once). We did the breakfast buffet every morning and it was a very, very good buffet. There were definitely too many Pussycat Dolls and Avril Levigne videos on the "Hits Don't Lie" TV channel, but I can't really blame the Secrets Resort company from that.ĭrink service was outstanding, and I say this as someone who drinks with conviction. The "Your Wife is in the Bathroom" beacon wasn't strictly necessary, I guess - there's a big frosted window in the shower that opens onto the bedroom so I was notified when she had to pee in the middle of the night- but it wasn't a big deal. The patio was great - I spent so much time reading in that hammock that it felt like the bed was swaying by the end of the week. Very comfortable bed, quite roomy, good shower, and the patio opened onto a semi-private pool nook that was connected to the bigger pool that had a swim-up bar. Our room was great! I'd seen a lot of people complaining about the "dated" rooms, but I have no idea what they were talking about. We got a brief overview of the property (and info about the two bordering ones that we could also visit) and a very chill timeshare pitch, which we declined politely, and that was literally the last we heard about timeshares for the rest of the visit. They gave us champagne, which we barely had time to finish before we were all checked in. So yeah, definitely the optimal plan and we will do that again.Ĭheckin at Secrets was a breeze. Instead we dodged the swarm of timeshare goons and walked to Diego's Tacos and had the best shrimp tacos I've ever had and then grabbed a cab from there - $20 for 4 people. We followed the advice of this sub and didn't book travel from the airport to the hotel. So we tempered our expectations but remained optimistic. The reviews on TripAdvisor were pretty polarized as well. Of course, after booking, we discovered this subreddit and learned that a lot of people don't really like this property. So that kind of soured us on the whole experience despite the excellent food and great service otherwise.Īs I said, we still had a great time in CZM, so we booked a stay in October, and after doing some online research, we booked at Secrets Aura. ![]() I timed it.), the beach was tiny, and the guy who was supposed to schedule our COVID test "forgot" to do it because while we were scheduling it, we didn't agree to sit through his timeshare pitch. Check-in was a nightmare (I was at the front desk - not in line, but actually at the desk, waiting for my room, for literally two hours. I have not stayed at any other Secrets hotels but from what I hear this is not a typical Secrets resort.Last Feb, we stayed at the Grand Park Royal. The swim up suites and beach are very nice but other than that this resort is one I do not recommend as there are much nicer resorts in Mexico for much cheaper. It was great being able to walk into the pool from your room and slide down a water slide to the pool bar to get a drink. We booked a junior swim up suite which I definitely recommend if you chose to stay here. The juices they use in their alcoholic beverages all have a very artificial cheap taste to them that was not very enjoyable. We did not have the mildew smell from other reviewers, however many people we spoke to at the resort did. The beds in the rooms were comfortable and the rooms were clean. The showers go from hot to cold to warm to very hot while showering which was very annoying. The only restaurant we really enjoyed was the Italian at Dreams. The food was not very good and a few people on our trip did get very sick after all eating pork at one of the restaurants. The beach is a highlight with some good snorkeling around the pier, however other than that this resort does not have much to offer that you can't get at another resort for much better quality and price. Overall, I would not recommend this resort and will not stay here again. ![]()
